Tools to help with aphasia or not remembering words
Quote from jennifer vogel on July 27, 2022, 3:01 pmLooking at me you would never know I've had a stroke. I am two years post stroke and working full time. I have found that I am having problem remember words during meetings and am not nearly as sharp as prior to the stroke. Have others experienced this and is there a good way to help with that, whether diet, medicine, exercises, etc?

Quote from Kate on August 4, 2022, 4:50 amHi I am nearly 10 years post stroke, I have word finding, naming, place and face recognition problems. They were improving before Covid with routines I built. But that’s gone since Covid took most support and socialization away. I try to keep reading, driving and rejoin socializing and support groups whoever they reconnect, but those social supports are slow to return. Medical support has changed so much too. It’s been o hard on everyone, we will need Covid support group just for getting through these times. I guess I found words for that😌

Quote from Caren Robinson on October 15, 2022, 1:06 pmA program that has helped me with my aphasia has been joining a Toastmasters Club. I have been a part of a local club now for a little over 5 years. Toastmasters helps folks develop their public speaking skills and leadership skills. I also wanted to work on my short term memory challenges. This was really challenging at first because I could do nothing from memory and had a lot of trouble finding the words I wanted to use, and staying on topic. It has been a huge help in getting the support to move forward with my communication rehabilitation.
For those interested - they have these clubs all over the world. You can find them here: https://www.toastmasters.org/find-a-club
The Club I am in is called "The Law of Attraction Toastmasters Club".
