Cooking - The Great Escape
Quote from Caren Robinson on October 15, 2022, 1:42 pmI feel better when I am cooking. This was not always the case after my brain injury. In fact, still if I don't stay focused I may forget something or mess up something. However, cooking is a great escape for me and I love coming up with completed meals for my family that turn out well. I love challenging myself to cook things I haven't done before, and challenge myself to do multiple tasks (sometimes this goes well sometimes it doesn't). My kids are great about helping me lift things, carry and gather the things I need. I often wonder what it will be life when they are no longer here in the home to help. There will definitely be less to cook - lol.
Cooking though, while exhausting, makes me feel accomplished and capable.

Quote from Sara Riggs on October 16, 2022, 3:33 pmI loved cooking and baking prior to my hemorrhage. cooking for my family was a joy. Now it is hard and frustrating. My limitations require me to have someone else do many simple tasks. It diminishes my joy. Very soon after my stroke, my husband, knowing how much I enjoyed cooking, asked my OT would I bew able to cook again. Her response? A chuckle and " You're kidding, right?" Wow. I'm blessed that now I can prepare many of their favorite dishes. For those of you that also struggle, check out www.activehands.com for products for reduced hand function including cooking, hair care, etc.cooking. And...we are very excited to announce that the founder, Rob Smith, will speak at our meeting and host a Q&A session on November 9!

Quote from Joyce Hoffman on October 16, 2022, 7:05 pmThat's right, Sara! November 9th with speaker Rob Smith might open the world to stroke and TBI survivors to say, "I can DO this!" Thanks, Sara, my beloved partner, for getting Rob on the roster! See Rob's story: https://www.activehands.com/about/ From that to this! Amazing turnaround!
